Bendle Lawn Equipment was conceived in the minds of Chuck and Janice Riddle, in 1981. In the midst of tough economic times, their lives were put on hold due to a General Motors layoff. Chuck had worked in the lawn and garden industry while in high school, and out of necessity, he thought he would start a repair shop in his garage until he was called back to work for General Motors. Little did he know that almost 40 years later his repair shop in the garage with two employees would eventually grow to become a multi-million dollar business with two locations and 20+ employees. The repair shop in the garage only lasted a few months before a larger facility was necessary. The original North Anderson location was remodeled from a lumber storage building into a lawn equipment repair shop. After almost 40 years, it was necessary to move to a larger facility again. The new North Anderson location opened on January 4th, 2016.
Chuck and Jan's son Dean came to work at Bendle's while in college. In 1983, Dean and his wife Laura became full-time employees, and all have worked together ever since. The Riddles have always put themselves in the consumer's position, asking the question, "What would I expect?" Being fair—regardless of the cost—becomes easy when you have this philosophy.
